After two very grueling days, WTF 2011 is finally over!

Day 1, which was played last July 02 (Saturday), featured the round robin games for all teams. 3 games. 45 minutes each. Race to 11. With very thin lineups during that day (no team had more than 10 players on their roster), it ended up testing every person's endurance. At the end of the day, based on the results of the round robin match ups, the semifinal match ups were:

PULAr Bears vs. Happy BERDE
Team BLUEtongs vs. BLACKheads

The semis and finals were played yesterday, July 09. The point cap was still 11, but the time cap was raised to 50 minutes.

The first semifinal match up featured our special guests Bonnie and Clyde (a.k.a. the Honeys) playing for PULAr Bears and Happy BERDE, respectively. Unfortunately for the BERDEs, one of their main female runners, party girl Jackelens, was out of commission from the PUA Summer League Party held just the night before. As if that wasn't enough of a disadvantage already, the Bears seemed to have a full roster. 13 out of a possible 15 players to be exact. It was like they paid everyone on their team to be there! Hehehe :o)

So with the numbers on their side, the Bears ended up with the win, and finally put a stop to Dino's 4-peat record for WTF competitions.

The second semifinal match up had both teams playing with thin rosters again - 9 players for the Blackheads and 10 for the BLUEtongs. Unfortunately for the BLACKheads, main offensive weapon Lemuelle seemed to have too much of a good time during the PUA Summer League Party from the night before. I will spare you all the details, basta may Bow Tie, Special Chair, 8 seconds, at posteng involved. 'Nufff said. Suffice it to say that Lemuelle enjoyed himself, and probably had one drink too many. Alam ko ito kasi nung binabantayan ko siya, amoy chico pa rin. Hahaha.

It was still a good match up, though. With hucker extraordinaire Mundz added on to the BLACKheads roster, they were able to keep the game close. It was such an even match up that the last point for the game was played for AT LEAST 25 minutes! The score was 5-5, and the point was being played for a few minutes already when a timecheck was called. It was 11:36AM, which gave the teams another 24 minutes to play. Nobody knew that it would be the LAST point of the game.

BLUEtongs ended up with the universal point to victory to barely make it to the Finals.

Battle for 3rd: Happy BERDE vs. BLACKheads
It was the BERDEs handler one-two play versus the BLACKheads' endzone huck connection. Run and Gun vs. Wham-Bam-Thank-You-Maam. The game was tight. Both teams were exchanging points early in the game. At one point, the BERDEs managed to get a defensive break, and scored to lead by 2. The BLACKheads were able to react though, and via their bread-and-butter Mundz to Lems long-range connection, quickly tied up the game.

FYI: Lems scored something like 6 points in this game, almost all of them endzone receptions via hucks.

The game continued to be close until soft cap was called, at which point the BERDEs seemed to have just a little bit more left in them than the BLACKheads. They managed to score the remaining two points to reach the point cap, and close out the game.

Championship: PULAr Bears vs. BLUEtongs
The Bears started out blazing, scoring the first two points of the game. The BLUEtongs, though, were able to bounce right back and tie the game, and even take the lead. The Bears rallied back and managed to get one point ahead, 7-6, the half. The BLUEtongs scored the first point, but the Bears scored the next point. The match continued to remain close with both teams exchanging points.

The effort that both teams put into the game was something that a championship match deserved. There was a good distribution of the disc. There was offensive flow. But there were also really good plays on D, which evened things out. Enteng made some fabulous defensive stops right at their endzone, which prevented a couple of potential points for the BLUEtongs. On the other hand, newbie Miko and long-time absentee Kenneth also did a good job on their defensive assignments JM and Enteng.

It took some spectular plays, though, to determine this year's Champions. There were some layout Ds and hustle plays in the game, but these were all overshadowed by the layout goals of the Bears' Secret Offensive Weapon, JP Santos. Goalkeeper na goalkeeper ang dating! Ibang klase ang mga dive.

Despite keeping the game close, it was strength in numbers that finally got the PULAr Bears the win. Congrats to them for being the WTF2011 Champs!

At the awarding ceremony, we gave away a lot of raffle items and special prizes. Here's a rundown of all the awards that were given out:

And of course, we would also like to thank all of you who attended this event. It would not have been successful without your participation. As I said yesterday at the party, 52 out of 59 participants were able to attend at least 1 of the 2 tournament days. That's a pretty awesome attendance rate right there.

So once again, thank you all for your contributions and your participation in this year's WTF. See you all again at next year's event!

With a ten-player cap for every team, the Warriors fielded three teams: two in the open division (Warriors A aka Marines, and Warriors B aka Barracks) and one in the Newbies division.

TEAM MARINES
(Fel, JB, Nana, Aries, Ian, Ward, Lei, Che, Tish, Ivy)

Day 1: Marines were randomly grouped together with Shark (aka the Heyman-Marin-Jamel No-Mercy Team), Spuck U (di ba 4-3 dapat? Baket puro lalake ang nasa team nila?!), and Diskulits. Ended the day with a 1-2 record.

Day 2: As Marines were in the bottom half of their group, they ended up in Pool B. First game was vs. the Kayu oldies. The team started off with just...FOUR PLAYERS VS. SEVEN!!! Fel, JB, Nana, and Tish. Ten-ten-tenen talaga. And...MARINES SCORED THE FIRST POINT!!!:D As the game progressed, the other players trickled in, so by around half time or so, the team had a solid lineup of seven. Ivy made up for being late by making a one-handed grab at the endzone--with two guys on her! Marines won, earning them a spot in the semifinals! Woohoo!

Marines won the semifinals and headed for the Pool B finals! Fully expecting to play against Spy's team--which didn't make it into Pool A after being put in the Group of Death on Day 1--we were dumbfounded to find out that they lost in the semis, and that we were actually playing against Xavier!

In the finals game vs. Xavier, the two teams were exchanging points, until Xavier went on their 5-0 run. Marines were stuck at 4 for what seemed like ages. "Fast" doesn't begin to describe their boys (or at least a couple of them). Their plays revolved around just three guys. Marines didn't get to capitalize on their girls who had, in fact, scored all the team's points. Nevertheless, Marines reached the finals, and that's something to be proud of!

TEAM BARRACKS
(Mundz, Dino, JM, Brian, Pat, Junders, Mina, Cel, Edith, Eire)

Day 1: Team Barracks ended the day with a 2-1 record, earning them a spot in Pool A! Woohoo! While they weren't too happy about going up to Pool A (boh-ring! Haha), dapat lang may Warriors sa Pool A no! Represent!

Day 2: And the first team that Team Barracks was playing against on 10.10.10 was...Sprockets! Ten-ten-tenen! Barracks had five almost-points. They lost to Sprockets, and went on to play vs. Hairy Monsters, made up of mostly Circus players and Jacq. They lost 5-10. Their last game was against the younger Kayu, which they won! A seventh place finish in Pool A!

NEWBIES
(Lem, Cams, Kenneth, Migs, Emeng, Egay...with the allowed two PUA members Czar and Connie. I'm missing a couple of girls...)

Day 1: MASSACRE! With their patented Connie-Czar 1-2 play, with a huck to Rugby Boy Limonwells or new recruit Cams at the endzone, the newbies ended the day with a 3-0 record!!! The others were also very active on the field, making smart cuts, and really diving/jumping/sprinting for the disc.
Day 2: Newbies cruised through the first game and the semis to make it to the finals! Huwaw! Unfortunately, they were down one guy (injured, may kasal, may housewarming...), so they had to play with four girls and three guys vs. the other team's usual four guys and three girls. In the end, our newbies bowed down to Lugaw (?). BUT they overperformed and had such an impressive run!

The standings don't really do justice to the quality of the games played on both days, and the effort put in by all four teams... PARTICULARLY the battle for 3rd between Babes N' Blue Balls and Bikining Itim. Grabe, akala mo pang finals na dahil sa level ng excitement! The bikinis were down 8-5, but were able to rallye behind JM and Connie to score four straight points! They were able to swing the momentum in their favor, and looked like the game was theirs, but the Blue Balls still had something left in them. Goals were exchanged, and before we knew it, last point was called with the Bikinis leading 11-10.

Akalain mo ba naman, Blue Balls pa ang naka-score!!! Universal point (a.k.a. Heart Attack Play) na. Maraming exchanges ng possession, with both teams having difficulty scoring because of fatigue. In the end, the Blue Balls managed to sneak one in for the win! HANEP!!! Exciting talaga :o)

The finals match between Code Red and Anak ng Put-I wasn't as exciting though. The only important highlight of this match is that DINO of Anak ng Put-I has been on the winning team for the past four (4) Warriors tournaments - from the original Urda Open back in 2007 to present! O diba, panis ang 3-peat nila Jordan!

Manila Spirits / Asia Oceania Ultimate Club Championships 2009
Nov. 6-8, Alabang Country Club

Friday. Open and Women's Division. Kapitan Fel and Warrior Nana banded with some of the Circus Weng Weng guys plus some other dudes from other teams to form Team Barracks' Obama. They competed in the AOUCC Open Division and won 2 out of 4 games. Here's a shot of Kapitan Fel making an awesome grab at the endzone.

Saturday. Day 1 of Manila Spirits and AOUCC mixed division. This was the first time the Warriors, old and new, all played together since heaven knows when so Day 1 was basically Let's-Find-Our-Team-Chemistry day. The team played against MAD, Cuernos Dumaguete, Mindanao United, and BC. The Warriors lost all four games but this did not stop them from partying hard that night at Spotlight in Pasong Tamo Extension. Sunday. Last day of Manila Spirits and AOUCC mixed division. This time the Warriors proved that they still have what it takes. Game 1 was against Guambats where the Warriors lost by 1. Highlight of the game: the Warriors scoring a 6-point run but was 10 seconds over the soft cap, which would have given the team an opportunity to win by universal point. Game 2 was against Xavier where the Warriors lost by universal. Game 3 was against BC where the Warriors won by 3 points. Highlight of the game: the Warriors showing amazing patience against BC's cup defense by swinging the disc consistently and slowly bringing the disc down to the endzone. Good job, Warriors.

After the quick finals game between Siouk and Black Flag, it was party time on the fields. Highlight: the Warriors going on a picture-picture spree with random and not-so-random people. Some of the victims included members of Siouk (AOUCC champs), members of Black Flag (Manila Spirits champs), a white guy with taped nipples, and local idols Kuya Danny, Jeffrey from Bora, and Towie. The Warriors, with the exception of those who left early and Dangerous Girl who stayed at the party, capped off the Manila Spirits weekend with a lamon fest at one of the Warriors' favorite post-ACC games hangout - Congo Grill.

The next league coming up is the Monsoon League, which kicks off in two weeks. Yay mixed league! Time to get down and durrrty. Let's hope we get a bit of rain for at least one game day or something.

But before that, we have the annual Warriors Tournament and Farty (WTF) coming up this weekend! Four teams, one whole day of disc, and an after party. Yeba.

M&M 2009 Update (Week 5)

First Pool A Win
Yay the Warriors Men got their first Pool A win last Sunday against Monster! The guys started on defense and Monster scored first, but the Warriors were able to catch up. The two teams exchanged points until the Warriors scored for the mirror at 6-4. Monster played catch-up the rest of the game. At some point the Warriors led by 4 points, but Monster managed to cut it down to 2, then to 1. Last point was called at 10-9 with Monster on defense. The Warriors managed to convert that possession into a point, so Warriors won, 11-9!

The Warriors played Askalz in the second game. The boys had a pretty good flow and were executing plays well. They traded points with the Askalz until they were tied at 4. That was when the Askalz upped their game and took the lead at 9-4. The Warriors managed to score two more points, but the Askalz claimed the game at 11-6. Still, good job, Warriors!

Savage Baby Girls
Nine Baby Girls played savage against Chicks with Discs and Discpatchadoras. The Girls played hard but lost the must-win game against Chicks by one point. In the second game, the Baby Girls scored two points against the Discpatchers. Over quota! Good job, Baby Girls!

Ultimate in 10 Simple Rules

1. The Field: A rectangular shape with end zones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards,with end zones 25 yards deep.

2. Initiate Play: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line. The defense throws (“pulls”) the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team.

3. Scoring: Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's end zone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.

4. Movement of the Disc: The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc (“thrower”) has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower (“marker”) counts out the stall count.

5. Change of Possession: When a pass in not completed (e.g. the disc went out of bounds, or was dropped, blocked, or intercepted), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.

6. Substitutions: Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury time-out.

7. Non-contact: No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.

8. Fouls: When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.

9. Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.

10. Spirit of the Game: Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

M&M 2009 Update (Week 4)

It's now Round 2 of the elimination games.

The UW Men's Team are currently playing in Pool A after winning against Lolos in last week's crossover match. Yesterday our guys had their first taste of Pool A ultimate goodness against the more experienced and hardcore Heyman and the Masters of the Universe, Sexual Chocolate, and T3. The Warriors lost all three games to point caps, but still they played hard and managed to take 7 points against Heyman, 5 against Sexual, and 3 against T3. Good job, Warriors in Pool A!

Yesterday was deja vu for the Weng Weng Warriors Club when they once again battled it out with Disc Menor Hijas, KAI, and Devil Dogs. The Baby Girls lost again to the Hijas and were blown out by the Devil Dogs, but maintained their dominance over KAI. Good job, Baby Girls!

The Warriors dominated the first game against Super Bueno and the third game against Kainumanggi, but lost the second game to Circus Weng Weng by universal point.

Weng Weng Warriors Club a.k.a. Baby Girls
Record after three games: 2-1

In the first game, the Baby Girls were slaughtered on the field by the Devil Dogs. Aside from the fact that the Devil Dogs are one of the top seeded teams, it was also the Baby Girls' first game as a team and everyone was still trying to assess each other's game. By game 2, the Baby Girls were more organized and confident, and won against MAD/USC by 6 points. SP forfeited due to lack of players so Day 1 ended early for the girls.

Summer League 2009: The Final Score

Saturday, 6th of June. Summer League 2009 ended with a bang, or rather with a splash, as teams battled it out in the rain. The Warriors defeated BC in their first game of the day but lost to a strong K3 in the semi-finals. The battle for 3rd saw the Warriors playing against regular practice buddies Circus Weng Weng. Circus took the first half with a 4-point lead, but the Warriors managed to rally to 6-5 before the last point was called. The Warriors took the last point for a chance to win the game by universal point. The Heart Attack Play was in effect, and the Warriors ended up getting the universal point to bag 3rd place.

Later in the after party, Captain Fel a.k.a. FedEx was named MVP. That makes two MVP Warriors this year! Woohoo!

Good job, Warriors!

The Warriors joined the 7th Boracay Open for the first time. Seventeen Warriors enjoyed a whole lot of sun, sand, disc, and booze. Of course, they also celebrated old and new friendships Bora Open style.. coz they were in Bora. Right.

To cap off March, the Warriors had a victory party slash despedida for the Honeyz. It was crazy and bittersweet at the same time. It was also the night of the HOTNESS. The team also elected new captains. Congrats and good luck to new captains Fel, Czar, Jacq, and Lei.

The Warriors had a very good year. We started out as part of Pool C and ended with both our male and female squads in Pool A (M&M2). Woohoo.

Team highlights:

We welcomed new teammates - MC2 peeps (friends na tayo! hehe), Felix, etc.
We joined a lot of PUA leagues and team-sponsored events (Malakas League, Summer League, Monsoon League, Malakas at Maganda 2, SP Hat, Monsters Hat, Battle Royale)
First international tourney - SPIRITS!
We finally left Urda to move on to a safer field (libre pa!)
WTF?!?! a continuation of last year's Urda Open (which hopefully goes on to be a Warriors tradition)
Hindi na tayo cliquish! Marami na tayo friends from other teams!
We beat a bunch of good teams this year (which previously we just had a quota against these teams)
We had a lot of Warriors activities! Summer outing at Punta Fuego with overnight inuman at Calamba, pre-Monsoon League matured drinking party, WTF party, star-studded Christmas party (hehe), movie nights, etc.

Seeding day for the boys.

Complete boys roster except New Nyorker Lawee. Awwww.
More boys equals a harder time fixing the rotation and less playing time for each person but it also gives us the opportunity of "line subbing" and keeping everybody fresh for the entire game.
And the boys team needed every person in gutting out its two wins via universal point.
First game vs Underdogs features a rematch of the Day 1 game which ended in a universal goal by Lawee.
The game showed again that these two teams are evenly matched as they traded points all the way to the last goal.
There was a bit of wind which affected play as each goal was scored on a downwind offensive opportunity.
Last point was called. Czar made a huck to Dondi which was almost intercepted by Ius but the tapped disc stayed afloat in the air and Dondi made a fortunate catch. Dondi to Roy, who caught the disc but was called short of a goal. After his trademark move (hehe), he picked up the disc and two short passes later Warriors score the final goal for the universal point win!
Second game vs Monster 1, the team we almost beat during the Summer League Pool B semifinals.
They only have 1 sub. 16 vs 8. Advantage Warriors.
Monster applied their trademark cup the entire game testing the Warriors patience.
Warriors proved they have the ability to break the cup as they patiently moved the disc up.
Short game and movement is improving. But once the endzone is in sight, eveyone moves in and clogs the area. Can't blame people for wanting to score. And sometimes you just have to remind them to "Clear that sh*t!"
Long game is also on as Mund bailed us out of trouble a couple of times with long accurate hucks to the endzone.
Warriors jumped to a 3 point lead and appeared poised for a runaway victory. Pero syempre, mas gusto ata natin ng "heart attack play" a.k.a. the universal point.
Monster scored three quick points to tie the game. Last point was called on the field. Eto na, aatakihin na naman ang mga tao sa kaba ng universal point.
Knowing that Monster will use the cup, the Warriors fielded in four handlers (Mund, Nana, Dondi and Enteng as popper/handler/hound extraordinaire).
Patience was tested to the limit. "Gapang" play ensued. Major props to Reymund for resisting the urge to throw his formidable huck. (This is the same as Mundz resisting a bottle of ice cold beer or sisig plus extra rice. Kaya major props talaga!)
The handlers took their time. Slowly bringing the disc up, sometimes gaining, sometimes losing a few meters. But the important thing is that we have possession and we don't commit the turnover. After countless passes of the handlers and with the help of the poppers, the Warriors finally reached the endzone for the game-winning universal point. (di ko matandaan kung sino, basta panalo!)
Our prize for winning? A trip to Pool A and a matchup with the number 1 team of the league. Nye, parang parusa instead of reward. hehe.

Because of the alternating games, the boys were able to catch the girls games as well.

Girls first game vs Flag Footed.
I think Mina was confused because of the opposing team's American footbal jerseys. Ayun, muntik na i-tackle yung isang babae.
Nakakalito si Reema and Ivy. Yeeeeessssss! Artistahin!
Flag Footed girls went hardcore as they made layout after layout after layout....
Good job Waryoritas short game. Although, the ladies still need a bit more consistency, you are already able to bring down the disc. Konti na lang, but we're getting there.
Jane has a mean huck. Forcing forehand or forcing backhand? No problem.
And although the girls only managed a single point, the final score did not show the heart and the hussle of our very fine lady Warriors.
Second game vs Discpatchadoras (friends of Annie Batumbakal na gabi gabi na lang na nasa Disco).
Warriors had a lot of missed opportunities near the endzone. Sayang! Pero ok lang yun. Baka excited lang maka-goal, parang ang mga boys.
From the start, medyo mainit na ang laban. That's when Mother Nature stepped in to cool the players down with rain.
Ang lamig sa sidelines. Buti na lang may Bacardi Coke.
The rain seemed to even up the field as the lady Warriors showed their mettle forcing multiple turnovers and scoring two points.
Girls come up short but they were pumped with their performance. And they should be! The opposing team is composed of experienced players and the Lady Warriors defense prevented them from reaching the point cap while being able to have its second-highest scoring game of the league. Wooohooo!

After the games, the Warriors went to Congo Grille for the usual Lamon fest.

A group of Disc players (combo of SP and BC) also came to Congo and took the long table beside us. A short pick up game followed. Buti walang nabasag. Up!!!
A not-so-sober Cherry approached our table (ay baliktad pala yung watch ko) and congratulated the girls for their effort and their improving skills. We're all growing as a team daw. Yeba! Sila rin daw ganun nung start. Inabot sila ng three finals appearance bago sila nagchampion. Hmmmm. Tayo kaya makakailang taon bago man lang makapag finals?
As a token of our gratitude, we sent one plate of sisig to the other table. Wala na kasing budget mag extra rice.
Baka may kwento pa sa kabilang side ng table, kayo na bahala. Basta ang alam ko lang si Czar anti-social. Panay ang PSP! hehe.

Part 1 by Tish the Dish

Ultimit Waryurs Women vs. Devil Dogs from the Dirty South

Our first game was against the defending champs, the Devil Dogs (made up of the Devils + Alabang...and with at least three Team Pilipinas players! Anobuuuuzzz). And since they're the defending champs, sila ang napili ng camera crew na i-video. Again, anobuuuzzz. And if that weren't enough, nag-coach pa sa kanila si Derek! ANOBUUUUUZZZZ?!! (Wala kaming coach coz the boys were playing three fields away.:( ) Jacq, ngayon ka pa talaga umabsent di ba? Hehe. Nung magkatabi kami sa sideline (dalawa kaming sumisigaw sa endzone. Hahaha), gusto ko siya sabihan nang "Seryoso ka ba? Nakikita mo naman kung sino kalaban niyo di ba?"

And then napansin ko nung nawala 'yung camera crew, nawala din si Derek. Ang showbiz talaga ng Papa D mo! Pang-showtime talaga. Hahaha.

Final score: 13-1. Quota! Haha. The point was courtesy of Cel...and no, you are not exempted from next week's games. Hehe.

Ultimit Waryurs Women vs. JKK United

We thought we had a fighting chance against this team, made up of Jogadores, Kayumanggi, and K3 ata--based on the Day 1 scores, they were massacred din eh. And when we saw their go-to drills nung day 1 (magpractice ba naman sa harap natin, blocking our view of the boys' game!), parang kaya talaga.

I must say, our short game was really good. Palagi lang nagkakaproblema pagdating sa endzone. Dondi says it's coz sanay tayo sa Urda length, na 3/4 lang nung ACC field. So kung Urda 'yon, ang dami na nating points! Hehe.

Our main problems lang were:

The wind. We have to get used to low passes. Ang daming sayang na hinangin na pass.
Their hucks. We didn't expect them to have good long passes. So naka-ilang points sila from that.

It was cool though coz Alabang was cheering for us! They said that our movement is good na. I guess we really just have to fix our passes.

Final score: 8-4.

Must give props to....

The girls' defense! Maganda ang D natin! Ang dami nating blocks (si Jane nakarami), especially sa second game! Lahat ata tayo may block, including first-time tournament player Ayeen! Meron pa ngang unintentional block si Kring. Naglalakad lang naka-block na. Pati Alabang natawa! Haha.
I'm so proud of our girls coz they really hustled, especially sa second game. Nag-dive ang mga hindi naman nagda-dive dati (hi, Mina and Ena!), at gumaganda na ang cuts (hi, Apple!). You guys were hungrier for the disc this time around. Ahluvet.
The handlers are more confident now! We just have to work on our throws pag mahangin, at pag nala-line trap.

Part 2 by Crocodile Dundi

First game versus Pretty Boy and the Gang (PBG) which started with only six players so the UW Mens squad believed they had a chance...until PBG scored the first goal easily.
The boys were able to remain competitive at the beginning keeping the score close. Two more PBG players arrived and we were reduced to the "quota" game. Quota na tayo! Yehey!
We have to bring our A game to be able to beat the faster, more cohesive unit of PBG. Yesterday, we..uhm..didn't.
The Ultimate Warriors are in the running for the Pool B Championship...if PBG moves up to Pool A.
No worries though about the loss as PBG is certainly the toughest team in the pool. Just showed that the UW Mens still have a lot of room for improvement. And there's no place to move but up. The sky's the langit!
Second game versus TODA 2 was a little less intense. There was no pressure and the other team was also very spirited.
We knew we had the upper hand versus this team and we wanted to end the game as quick as possible so that we could cheer on our girls team. However, the wind was starting to pick up and it made it harder to complete offensive opportunities.
Greg was designated to check and help the girlz. (Nakatulong ba sya? Samin kasi, hindi e. haha. joke. Peace Greg! )
UW Mens was able to run away with the win but we did not reach the point cap so we were not able to catch the Women's game.
Third game versus Kayumanggi and the wind was really blowing mightily at this point.
Kayumanggi's strategy was obvious from the beginning..huck huck huck.
UW Mens Team was not able to defend the first few long hucks of Kayumanggi as the two teams traded the first few points.
The team showed patience in bringing down the disc, using the short game as it battled through the field against the strong wind. We also showed we could go for the long hucks as the handlers took advantage when the wind was in our favor..
After a tight start, the Warriors scored consecutive points to blow the game wide open and prompted the other team to ask for "mercy" and stop the game a few minutes before time cap. (Kayumanggi only had 7 players so they also had a hard time without subs and some of them suffered from cramps already)
UW Mens rushed to the other end of the fields to cheer on the last play for the UW Womens team versus JKK.

What did we learn:

Baduy pag sabay ang Mens at Womens game. Booooo! The boys were torn. We wanted to win our games but at the same time we wanted to cheer and support our girls. We want to be water boys and umbrella boys. Yung mga boys sa sideline, malayo ang tingin. Yung game ng girls ang pinapanood. Sana next week hindi na sabay ang games ng boys at girls.
We are at the mercy of the elements. Ang lakas ng hangin. Ang hirap pumasa. Hindi puede mataas masyado at hindi rin puede ang mahina. Dapat low, bullet passes. Dapat ma-practice maglaro na may hangin. Greg: "Dapat maghanap na tayo ng field na may hanging" Enteng: "Dapat matuto na tayo i-control ang hangin!" Hindi pa yan nakainom masyado. hehe.
Matigas ang ulo ng mga tao. Scenario 1: "Guys, wag masyado mataas ang mga pasa ha. Mahangin masyado." Tapos three consecutive passes ata na mataas tapos hahabulin ng receiver tapos mataas din ang pasa sa next receiver. Pero in fairness, umabot naman sa goal. Scenario 2: "Swing sa gitna." And you know what happens next. The infamous Urda Gilid play. In fairness ulit, naka-goal naman. Scenario 3: "Cut back!" sabay long ang mga loko! Scenario 4: "Don't clog!" Tatlong itlog sabay sabay nagcut sa gitna. Scenario 5: "Roy, wag mo itaas kamay mo ng ganun. Baka ma-misinterpret kasi na opposing team." Kasalukuyan na lang naming hinihintay na mapaaway kami. It's inevitable. hehe.

Highlight #1: Bullets from Crocodile Dondi

Two games each for UW Mens (morning games) and UW Womens (afternoon games). First time Warriors fielded in a Womens Team. Woot-woot!
Suportahan ta ka! Warriors showed their love and support as the girls woke up early to support the boys and the boys stayed after thair games to support the girls.
Mens first game vs Underdogs/Jogadores/Wild Boys close fight all the way. Warriors have a new name - Universal Warriors Dancers (for their love of universal points, inspired by the original UMD).
Universal point ends in familiar fashion - game-winning goal by future New Nyorker Lawrence. Thank you Sonny Boy!
Men's second game vs Monster highlighted the Warriors improvement, showcasing their patience in the short game as they broke the opposing team's cup consistently earning easy points and jumping to an early big lead that they never relinquished. Final score: 10-5.
UW Mens gives Sonny Boy a big send-off as the team goes undefeated in the first day of elimination play.
UW Womens team played first ever PUA league game. Woot-woot! Boys show full suport.
UW Womens first game vs Slush, a powerhouse team composed of at least 2 Team Pilipinas members and a lot of good players.
Sarah showed ankle breaking skillz as her defender falls down at least once, everybody helps out in handling and the UW Womens team showed that they can play with the best of the Pool A teams! (talo pa ang UW Mens na na sa Pool B lang. hehe)
UW Womens did not score but they showed their heart, cutting hard to break free, hussling to chase on defense, falling down to save and catch discs.
Skky Vodka and Mountain Dew!
UW Womens second game vs another powerhouse, TODA Womens.
Good defense by the ladies squad resulted in fastbreaking "gilid" plays only to come up short of the enszone multiple times. Until...Finally, one of the fastbreak runs made up of several quick cuts and short passes continued all the way for the UW Womens first ever goal! UW Womens first goal is the Highlight of the Day! Woot-woot!
Some members of the UW Mens stormed the field as they celebrated with the girls in what seemed like a championship-winning goal!
UW Womens lose both games but they still showed the other teams what they're made of and gained a whole lot of experience along the way. Good job ladies!
Warriors headed to Hotshots after the games. Matagal ang order at matagal din ang suklian.
Sonny Boy surprises the team with two cakes from Conti's (one with "Thank you Warriors" and the other with "Ultimate Frisbee" written in icing). The Warriors will surely miss the countless defensive stops, hussle plays and game-winning goals. Thank you Lawrence/Law/Lawee/Sonny Boy/Agent 0. Sing: Babalik ka rin...(sabay hagulgol. wahhhh)
The Warriors discussed Nat Sci stuff e.g., layers of the earth, types of cloud (sarah: "favorite ko cirrus), etc., displayed their Yoga skills (Gladys show us your half-moon), reminisced WTF and previous inuman sessions (1,2,3, Booooooooo!.. sabay smile) and generally had loads of fun while chugging in the burgers, fries and cakes.
Great day to celebrate friendship! (*tear*) Great day to be a disc adik! Great day to be an Ultimate Warrior! Next week, let's do it all over again.

Highlight#2: A Few Notes from Tish the Dish

For those who missed the games yesterday, the boys won both games. (Woohoo!) The girls lost both. Really badly. Haha. BUT I think we learned a lot from our games. The experience will make us better players! Hello, kalabanin ba naman ang SP at TODA. Ewan ko lang ha.

A few notes for the girls, based on my observations, and the things I heard people say:

* Be confident! It's like dancing, you have to own the step! Own your throws! (Tuloy, mukha raw akong sumasayaw pag nagfe-fake.) Nag-aalangan pa rin ako sa mga bato ko, lalo na pag mahangin, but the only way we're gonna learn is if we keep doing it, right?

* Clear! Andu'n pa rin 'yung sakit natin na nagco-clog up 'yung passing lane. When we cut and don't get the disc, clear kaagad instead of just cutting side to side and clogging up the area. Give others a chance to cut.

* Clear! Part 2. Let's not clog up the dump side din. Sumusunod ang defenders so it gets a bit crowded back there. Mahirap na rin magdump. Normally, pag H (horizontal stack), may isang handler naman who acts as the dump, so the cutters can just stay on their designated sides and cut.

* Clear! Part 3. Let's not clog the end zone...assuming we reach the end zone. Bwahahaha.

*Anticipate! Cutters, pag nakita niyo nang pa-swing sa handler on your side, cut forward na agad. I think this is the reason we have a hard time breaking the cup--parang we wait til the handler gets the disc before cutting. By then, nakapag-set up na ulit ng D 'yung kabilang team.

* Don't panic! We're so inspired by the top teams na sobrang bilis mag-catch and pass na minsan minamadali natin. It's cool if we can pass it forward right away, but sometimes it's just not possible So let's remember that we have 10 counts.:)

* Bawal magkasakit! Cel! Nang dahil sa 'yo, bawal kami ni Sarah magpahinga nang sabay. Syet. Bugbog ang katawan ko ngayon. Yelle and Jomen, we needed your Cherifer-powered height advantage yesterday. Ang tangkad ni Bing from Slush, hassle!

* Have fun! It's great that we're taking it seriously and everything, and that we're picking up lessons along the way. But let's not forget to enjoy ourselves! Wheee!

Highlight#3: Some Inspirational Thought from the Kneeling Doctor

I will be the first to say that playing with all men was not that fun, obviously many of our girls have very much contributed to where the team is right now, enough with the boys showcasing there skills, its the girl turn this time...

So Congratulations!!!! Your the ONLY team in PUA (our our team -- me included) that has kept its team as a core, win or lose, we are the same team, no cross over player, no imports, Just plain Warriors (which is becoming a Stable of Good Players). And with no ambition of playing for other or another team (as far as I know, and our intentions are, keeping my finger cross for the future hehehe, or not just yet). --Warriors sa Hat pala labo-labo so dun lang tayo magkakalaban laban -- May SP Hat pala --- wanna play --- ask Mikee and Tish (diba guys kyo ang may SP connection hehehe)

When I saw the Ultimate Warrior last Malakas and Maganda at the start of the year, Malayo na ang narating natin, we celebrated the same way, each and every goal like it was the championship point up until now...
Thanks you din pala for Dondi for inviting me to play for M&M. I will say, I saw the girl yesterday like seeing the team at the start of the year, pardon the word pero RAW talaga, kasama nako dun, Raw na makunat pa hehehe.
Until this time we as one team are still in the process of learning.

Watching the games yesterday was very exciting, you made complete 3 to 4 passes, may it be upwind or with the wind, each time very near the endzone for a point, all are supporting each other. With the effects of the elements (i.e. the melting heat of the sun, wind, grass, etc) you guys were great.

Sana lagi kayong magprapractice ng completo ang line na puro girls, para ika-nga eh magka amoyan kyo.

-Kung ako ang Diyos at ako ang masusunod, gagawin ko na eto ang first game ng mga girls, kasi naka-score kayo Dito as 1 solid girl team!!! Swabe, napatakbo kami at high fives sa lahat dahil naka score kayo!!!
Kala ng TODA nanalo tayo hehehe (wala naman kami import! nye nye nye!!!)
-mas madami kayo good passes at excellent Defense!!! Keep It Up!!!
-at kung nauna itong game na ito, at di pa gano pagod, bla maka score pa rin kayo more, although madami improvements from game 1, so either way, natuto parin.
-may mga na-observe din kami na players na maganda ang forehand and backhand, pwede pumasa ng long... hmmm, attend kayo ng practice para ma-identify natin yung mga roles ng players at ma-maximize ang use of resources.
-Yung nga lang mainit talaga ang araw, mas maiitim ang kalaban nyo, 2 lang yan, babad sila sa araw the entire week, kayo babad sa lamig ng Aircon ng SGV the whole day.
-Kahit mainit konting lamig ng ulo, madami plays na incidentals ika nga di sinasadya, so just play on, kung di alam ng defender nyo na nasaktan kayo, say it to them (style din yan to intimidate) na sinaktan, nasaktan kayo, para mag-sorry, di naman yan talaga mag-sosorry kung alam nya di nya sinasadya, Okie, Peace tayo!!!

Sana maka attend kayo ng practice para maka laro kayo as girls all team pag pick-up.

Table Tennis Night

We have gone beyond Ultimate Frisbee. The Warriors have been active in other sports such as Wall Climbing, Badminton and recently (oh yeah and three cheers for the first timers, they were good) Table Tennis. Greg the White Dragon proved that he's really a dragowwnnn on the 4-sides of the table. Well, it's part of his genes and DNA to be a good Table Tennis Player. May nalalaman pa siyang excuse na "sa PE lang ako naglalaro", eh nasa bloodstream na niya puro pingpong balls na. What'll be our next sporty activity?? Well Teesya suggested we can have a larong kalye sportsfest. You know, patintero, tumbang-preso, luksong-tinik and piko!! Puwede puwede!!

When I shared with the team that our lanai or "tea room" has been renovated, they insisted on baptizing it, the Ultimate Warriors way, by having a party. They even declared the place as the Boom Boom Room, and made it the team's official party venue. As the modest hostess and golden ticket, I agreed on having the very first BoomBoom Room party. After all, we started back in 2005, at the same place, wherein we drank and partied the night away like there was no tomorrow.

What happened back in 2007? Oh yeah that's right, it was Whitee Co-Captain Greg's turn to host the party for the Warriors. Thus, it was White Dragon Shaolin God's year.

Hmmm, I just noticed that the party host and hostess are those peeps whose names start with the letter "G" and have been victims of the gang bang... Hahaha!!

But this year, it's the moment of the BoomBoom Room.

Last August 2, well I do not consider it as an excuse to party just because there was no game the next day, but rather there were three reasons to celebrate and it was mentioned at the very first paragraph of this entry. At the same time, it was an avenue for all of us to talk about our past games and our action plans for Monsoon's Days 3 and 4.

Oh yeah, days before the party, I insisted on having a "mature drinking" session because I kinda didn't want the place to be trashed. Hey, back in the coveted 2005 washak party, it was kinda hard to clean-up for a week (especially cleaning up our barf-filled banga and puke-smothered carpet), (the next day after the party) quite difficult to cheer for the Philippine team back in the SEA Games in Manila due to a terrible hangover and be grounded for like a month.

So yeah, at that night, no shots were made.

Food was also great. (Please let me raise my bench here) I cooked two types of pasta: Pinoy pasta and puttanesca. They loved it so much, each of them went back to the lil buffet table for two to three times. Donds and Greg treated the gang 4 boxes of Pizza and Tish brought that oozingly sinful chocolate cake from her fabulous Tita.

This cake made us commit the capital sin of gluttony. But I gotta admit, it's effin damn good!

Of course, the party wouldn't be complete without the booze. Most of the stuff came from Sarah (waaahh Smirnoff rocks) and I still had 16 bottles of SMB Light (For Jaguar PO's consumption). Mike made his special vodka concoction.

Looks like it's gonna be a long night heh... But it was kept in their minds to have a mature drinking night... Hehe!

After a hearty dinner, the peeps started to go chill drinking. While the night was young, different activities were done: poker, videoke, entertainment provided by Felix (the dude got acoustic talent and has a cool guitar!) and lotsa kwentuhan sessions.

The party ended at around 2am. Yep, as reiterated, no shots were made and we were still standing proud (as in no one barfed and mopped themselves on the floor). We were happy that we had the BoomBoom Room Mid-Monsoon Triple Celebration.

Monsoon Madness: Day 3

From the Director's Chair. Thou shall we listen to his thoughts.

Looking at the Ayala Alabang Country Club form the car, the grass was oh so green, from the previous pig pen we made of it 2 Sundays ago, grown and trimmed, the smell was different. Last Day of the Round Robin Phase of the Monsoon League. Watching sport for my 36 summers, we can see players, athletes, all of them aren't alike, small, short, big, stacky, fast, slow, gifted, trained, etc, etc, etc.

In sports lingo we have a term Dark Horse, it is a team or a player, or an individual, who is less considered to win, but not also to be underestimated because they call pull miracles and upsets. I cannot call the Ultimate Warriors a Dark Horse, other teams can now call us that. Speaking English very fluent and ala Conio type does not make you all the better, if not the greatest player of the sport your trying to play. You just have to show your stuff and let your achievements do the talking.Better or Worse? That my personal take, whats yours?

ULTIMATE WARRIORS VERSUS MONSTER 2

Welcome Back HOUNDZ TRIO. The game with Monster was a break of the curse of 1st game loss scenario (highlighted by Roy "WOW" Umali). This Monsoon League whenever the Warriors played there 1st Game we lost, i.e. Week 1 with Shawarma, Week 2 with Espana United. Well it has to stop somewhere. This was the Day that the curse of 1st game Lost was broken. Fairy Tale ending. MY VERSION OF UNIVERSAL POINT version 1.0 aka U-MINA-VERSAL POINT. Well, with that in mind, i will not be talking with the score, as we always lead the game with 2 points, then came behind with 1 point, the tied, the Universal Point. Going for our Win. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. That was the winning formula. As the renowned defense of both Monster 1 and 2, CUP (sana tama yan) defense was employed. The warriors was very much inspired by watching SPO1 and SPO2 playing on the pig pen, 2 sundays ago. Made use of there own version of the Ultra Magnetic Short Pass-Activate c/o Danny and Teacher Xtian (SPO1). We have moved the disc up and down oh so well. I dont want to mention names but, Dondi, Greg, Sarah, Mundz, Skeletor, Agent 0, Mike, Roy, Tish, Czarmel Sauce (hehehehe) were at their best. Technical notes confer that we only scored 2 points with long, i.e. Ahem ahem, the 3 point by Felix, with the my all the Way from Grg, and My catch to Felix point. And the oh so well famous Mina Raymond DISC-CONNECTION (from Cel's). All of the other points from short game, breaking the cup almost every time in our possession. Dondi and Sarah had also a HONEY-CONNECTION as Sarah caught a Honey pass right going left inside out by the Captain. The Ultimate Girl Warriors were like Houndz in defense, Jacq, Cel, Tish, Mina and the rest of the Girl warriors, help each other containing a versatile slightly quicker and taller Monster, whom scored atleast 3 points or so. Blocks to many to mention, as the played defense on the End Zone, and not making them score. Cheers to you Cel for the Block that nearly ricochet on some of the girls. Also there was also a point were we converted when few husk for the endzone many of the warriors was just not clearing out of the end zone, clogging the passing lane, Handler Skeletor I think was looking for a score pass to Roy, when the disc got a little bit blown off target, everybody jumped, catched the disc, but sorry Monster the Point was scored in between player (sa tagalog paningit) by the Sneaky Ninja Jacq, Nice one Jacq!!! Czarmel, Skeletor and Roy shared intercepting almost all of the Huck from the opponent, which made each possession turn into a goal. We were very thankful for gracing the show. Universal Highlight -- with a problem of game time keeping, everybody including myself was confused whether the game time cap was over. So I went to the committee and ask was the 1st set of games were finished, a very familiar PUA Board member replied "Kanina pa, kanina tapos" I told him that we were not able to hear it, and I asked him, can he announce the last point again for the benefit of our team and Monster to make it official. He then replied " hindi, hindi na pwede, ang tagal tagal nyo na naglalaro dapat marunong na kayo mag-time keep". Oh well he did pass by our field and said 3 minutes, and that was the last that I heard of it. So at a tied game and end of regulation time, the disc was almost to the other side of the field, needing to progress it entirety for a point and eventual win. Mundz was forced line while everybody was hearing the stall count, nearing stall, looking up to the trees a disc was flying as Mundz release a throw (which was the only throw available) outside in, where to? I dont know coz no one was calling him nor him barking at the receiver, ah this was the all so Famous Mundz-Mina DISC-CONNECTION as Mina caught Mundz was, where everybody on the field especially the Monster Team, concentration on there cup, it was broken by that DISC-CONNECTION, Mina to Dondi, Dondi killer Backhand to the Achilles Tendon Torned Lawrence aka Agent O, Now the SUN BLOCK JOKER, once again like so many times in the past scored for the Warriors. Game Point. WARRIORS WIN. Everybody relieved with the Hypertension Like Plays, came altogether a cheered as like we won our First Olympic Gold. Why did we win this game. Good decision, good call, good play. To my Captain there an old saying "To hear, one has only to listen", as we progress into the next games into the Finals Day, we often hear our captain call plays, which eventually we hear and listen, made us all look so good in the field, playing, having fun and enjoying and spreading the love!!!!To The The Ultimate Warriors, I very thankful you chose me to be in this team, rather me choosing you as a team, Puta Mushy Bullshit!!!!

WARRIORS VERSUS BREAKFAST CLUB

Resting from a slightly controversial win with Monster, whom Crocodile Dondi Chronicles from the Summer League, were according to him we played our best game against a complete Monster Team, which they didn't won, but we lost. Payback was all so sweet.

Next game was Breakfast Club.... very friendly game, living up to the SOTG. Ano yun? Spirit of the Game, burp.. JR even said ano wag na tayo maglaro, uniman nalang, as if they were not driking already, hehehe! Sarah said OO nga inuman nalang. A game accepted as a win for BC.Well , off to the game, side by side in the sidelines (hmmm ang dami word na side yun including this one) with BC a game all so FUN, no pressure, Hakuna Ma-ta-ta. With BC, so many years the senior and Englesh Espekeneng, we manage to score the first point against them hehehehe. Thank you Enteng for the pass, which was intentionally for Gladys, which I eventually caught for a point hehehe, Hakuna Ma-ta-ta. During the duration of the game it was close, Warriors leading at least 1 point each time BC scored, in other words, they were trailing. Great Handlers from BC made the score all so close and tied often times in the game. All for the spirit of fun and SOTG. With the Houndz countlessly intercepting there Hucks, one BC asked what are we on? Growth Hormones, Horse Hormones or Steriods... Hehehe! As the Warriors mastered their speed against them on defense. With Leah's tackling one of the BC Guys thigh, and goes lets me see your armor and pads miss, hehehe! He even went to base camp to ask for Leah, saying "hey where your line backer who game me a tackle" hehehe! With time barking saying 8 minutes to go, with 1 point down, the Warriors needed a point to force a Universal Point against BC, nearing 3 minutes to go, moving the disc slowly but surely near our endzone, pass after pass we did, with the famous Urda gilid play, a broken play caught by Sonny Boy (Lawee Boy) nearing the endzone, with the defense and everybody clogging the passing lane, and not clearing out, what the heck just took the risk and threw a forehand to the MINA-MACHINE, with a pass caught with the skin of teeth (sa tagalog nasalo ng Kuko hahahaha). Tied scored, the BC team was oh so surprised with last point barking, that the Warriors force them to Universal Point. This is getting to be a habit. Exchange of possessions ensued, until finally we were able to have possession of the disc, a huck away to the winning point, (please fill in the name of the passer) the outside going in pass was caught again by the Achilles Torn Sonny Boy scored to give the BC the 1st lost in the Monsoon league, we were the only team who was able to Beat BC, hephep hurray!!!! With the pass completed and sealed the game, everybody was happy, I think including BC, which I think saw us very elated that we won against them, and was also happy for us winning against them, as we cheered each other, exchanging nice game gestures. With Mr 1 versus 100 man JR nodding in disbelief that we won, sitting on the chair as I gestured nice game with a grin on my face.

I WILL BE DECLARING MYSELF THE WINNER OF THE GUESS WHO CONTEST OF THE GOLDEN TICKET, ON WHO WAS THE ONE HOLDING THE UMBRELLA -- Ako Yun Sister!!!!!

Winning Formula for this Game. With nothing hanging, we played relaxed, cheered, had fun with the other team. As time expired, with a chance to win, with the countless hours of practice and pick-up games we showed ourselves. It's fun to play, and it's more fun to play and win with the celebration of the spirit of the Game.

ULTIMATE WARRIORS VERSUS ULTIMATE WEEKEND KARMA

With the time keeping glitch from the Game against Monster 2, I heard Captain, told us, that he hoped that we learn from what happened with the time keeping in this game we had with Monster 2.

After the game from BC, as everyone was relaxing in Base Camp, reminiscing plays, Gary numerous block against a Monster player, The Return of QBF, which called a controversial foul at the end zone with monster. Also with Cel's foul called a release throw. In some small little groups of discussion. Cooling off, with several games of twister, when BC serenaded the Warrior basecamp to the tune of "Theme from Rocky's Eye of the Tiger" and some photo-ops. These guys were great! JR even pinch Dondz manhood as Sarah called it adultery, hehehe! Which reminds me that while playing against them the background music were collection of Spice Girls song, like everybody was dancing and singing, with the Spice Girls, Ice-Ice Baby, and some Retro Pinoy Music. Booting up once again to battle Ultimate Weekend Karma, according to Dondz, the defunct Jagadores et al. which the Warriors played in the last Monsoon League. The UWK (Ultimate Weekend Karma) played a game of Run, Huck and Catch, with each time they scored was when this White Guy was around, also the one during the game, gave Skeletor "the stench face" for a catch for a score, that even there own team mates saw it as a foul, but true to the SOTG, Enteng just brushed it off. More younger players, with the help of the blazing sun, were like draining our energy to catch up with them. The Warriors tied the game on the first part, then even lead with 2 points, then 3, before, the barrage of score made by UWK made it 1 point, as we exchange point with them with our possession. Sorry for this white guy who had been intercepted several times by Lawrence, Enteng and Czarmel Sauce, eating dust and grass in the process. (Hmmm parang si Mike yata yun ah, Mike diba!)

Greg was feeling oddly saying the Gatorade has something to do with it, coz it made him feel heavy and sluggish and all the more thirsty as he asked for some water. With Greg going over the officials table to check on the official time remaining, clock reads 10 more minutes until time lapses. The point the White Guy grab after, giving Skeletor a nudge seen by many. At this point the score was Warriors only leading by 1, with both teams informed that it still 8 minutes on time keeping. As the UWK employed there Huck Run Attack they manage to score once again for the tied, and another to lead by one. With them leading by one point, one player from UWK, and according to him, time has expired and our game was over, as he claimed that it was announced and both teams didn't hear it, being oh so controversial, a small technical arguement ensued with time keeping. Our Captain acknowledge the other teams captain to set the game is over, time capped expired. When the time barker audibly announce last point, a chance to tie for a universal point for the Warriors once again part 3. With almost everyone tired and almost empty, tried there best several times to execute and miss, until an execution of a more younger team scored the last point, lost but not beaten the Warrior Cheered On, celebrating a good day of Disc. Unfamiliar with the opponents and the 3 game stretch made the difference at the end. Returning to base camp, cooling down, shower and changing attires the Warrior went to Congo Grill before 6pm for a free Crispy Pata, with groups of 8, Lintek tapos na ang promo.All had a round of beer free of charge, in exchange of the other promo's. With the captains Birthday, food was served with him taking some meals to his tab.

From the Director's Chair. Thus, we shall pay our respects to his wisdom and observations.

UW vs. Espana United: 5-9

(mas madali manood kesa nasa loob, hehehe) - Short Game has improved leeps and bounds, there was a point for us i.e. the last point where Tish scored, the point started with a pull near the end zone (our end), short cuts and clogging was not a problem because everybody was not moving at the same time, Roy cuts, then Shane, then Kring, very patient and very fluid.(This was the point if you heard me Heckling before Dondi pick-up the Disc, "wala muna kikilos", sayang kasi ang movement kung di pa naman na-cacall na "disc in play" eh ikot na kayo ng ikot --- sasakit talaga ang mga katawan nyo lalo na Legs nyo, DIBA MINA hehehehe, pero masayang panooring na hinahabol-habol ka ng bantay mo hehehehe). My personal opinion is that whenever we play a seeded team we play our short game best, as compared to the later 2 games. Defense, our girls have to many blocks to count, well well well that is against Roselle Miranda (Philippine Team Lang Yun Noh!!!). Sa sideline ang ganda panoorin, napapa-hanep kame sa sideline, nice-blocks. Girls Warriors you were able to to that because, your were covering the offense at the back, you were able to read the pass of the handler and went ahead to the spot before the offensive player and was able to block it!!! That includes reading long hucks at the end zone. In summary girls have more blocks than the Boys hehehe, totoo yan. Well Dondi had same number of block or as many, lalo na against Molokai, malaki pa ang binabantayan nya. (insert Sarah, bakit ang laki ng binabantayan ng Honey Ko? Go Honey!!!!) Beterano na kasi yan hehehe (Peace!)

Pa-unang Salita --- we should not underestimate our competitors this does not mean, kahit na they never won with the Warriors, Jogadores (Malakas Maganda -- Underdogs) will never win against us. In all honesty, their handler Julius or IUS (Sometimes wearing a Jersey with BOSSING) is very good, Saturday morning before 9am Jogadores practices at Sunken Garden, then Later around 3-4pm goes to Ateneo Soccer Feild for afternoon session practice with Kayumanggi. Yun nga lang kulang-kulang lagi. Joy there Lady handler is always there. So nagprapractice sila. We scored 3 straight points against Jogadores, why? Favorite plays (long Hucks), Reymund to Lawrence, point 1, Reymund to Lawrence to Enteng point 3,Greg to Dondi, Dondi to Greg, Dondi (everybody insert: Si Patrict, Si Patrick sa endzone Open!!!!!!!!! --- Dondi insert (teka lang) Dondi -- pass risky and calculated, Patrick scores (1st Goal for the Monsoon yahooo!!! More to come Patrick. *** Comments We made those points against good defense, if you will see, how can we score 3 straight points, if we did not make good defense, thanks to the girls Ahem, ahem, ahem. hmmm, where are the girls teka, Tish was cuttting, Cel was running at the endzone, Sarah nasa likod ni Dondi. These point were all courtesy of the Girls defense, block, broken plays. Long points, this goes to show that all of us are improving, and that practices make us all better, against Jogadores, madamilong points, so nag-iincrease narin ang endurance and stamina natin, that the result of our weekly practices and pick-up.kaya na natin mag long point, starting from forcing to turn-over, slowly moving the disc, slowly thruupwind, mas accurate ang passes natin pag upwind kasi alam ng handler and receiver na upwind so na-reread na ang disc, Very Good Job in Disc reading! Trivia: Molokai is a Bar/Resto in Makati where the Molokai Players drink regularly, the team was the defunct MAD (tama ba Greg?? oh well) Brainchild Dennis Zabal reformed the team last Summer League, and volunteered himself in teaching there newbies as I got to see them (the begginers) in SanLo with TODA Begginers night.

Was I playing both field, or 3 hmmm (TODA, Molokai, Warriors) well aside from doing my own drills for the love of the game, I scout the players as well. This is my way of compensating for my Age. I observe players strength and try to outplay them with there strength hehehe, matanda na talaga at magulang. So nag pra-practice din sila, we practice as well so as to protect our winning tradition hehehe.

Analysis vs Molokai (sa totoo lang ayoko maglaro hehehe, kasi ni-nerbious ako, pag close ang laban gusto ko defense ako kesa offense -- kaya pala naka-score yung Naka-hubad hehehe, my Bad, cinover ko lang yung kasi walang bumabantay -- lame excuse)

Why did we lead by 3 points? Natural Tendencies --- Long Huck Reymund to Enteng, Enteng Dump to Reymund, Reymund to Lawrence, point 1,1-2, 1-2, 1-2, starting from the 3/4 of the field Sarah and Reymund combined for short and mid passes until Sarah went ahead without any defender until nakarating sila sa End Zone, Sarah, point 2. Di nakahabol ang defender kasi galing sa endzone nila trying to defend Sarah, so naiwan nya eventually, tired legs narin ang 4 na naging 5 later, take note yung "pleasantly healthy" na player nila. Medyo maganda nga panoorin kasi si Yelle ang Katapat parang TEN sila 1-0 hehehehe.

Teka lang... Nakalimutan ko pala yung highlights ng personal MVP tandadan ROY "WOW" UMALI. Sa dami dami ng Blocks mo sa Espana United, Goal sa Espana United. End Zone Strip for a End Zone Score, contested interception for a foul daw Haller!!! wala sayo ang Disc. Roy ang galing mo Idol, block against Molokai. Score against Molokai, and serveral saving catches!!!!Enteng ikaw din (insert : same as above with Roy) Sorry girls di kayo nakikita ni Mundz ang Greg kaya yung nasa long ang nakikita hehehe, nakikita nalang kayo pag stalling 7 na hehehe, This is where the TISH "coming coming coming audible comes into play" WHY? Pag nakakarining kasi ang defender ng audible ng may humihingi ng pass while cutting, tumitingin din sya, para ma block, also it could serve as a fake for the one audibly saying that he/she is cutting to make other areas open, make sense ba. Naka habol ang Molokai scoring 3-0, why did Molokai scored 3-2, then we scored 4-2, then 2 points for them tied at 4-4. Recap. The handler #23 was playing a short game, ala 1-2, with Dino, and the other Topless guy in chores in handling, at almost 3/4 of the field they went to the Chinese looking guy which eventually scored there 2 points, as observed, nag-semi stack kasi sila sa putik, and yung guys nilang long nasa side na walang putik, napansin ko nalang yun kasi medyo mabilis makatakbo kasi from midline pumupunta sa gilid kasi dun, di gano maputik kaya medyo makakatakbo. Trading points tayo after 4-4, 5-5. This was the point where DONDI said to himself "T*** **a kailangan natin manalo dito" with every Warriors was watching, Dondi was guarding #23 in an endzone play, ala box-out style, and low post in basketball combined, hehehe, the #23 Handler low-post Dondi, pwet muna for the position, sabay siko hehehe kalas si Dondi ayun score, hehehe, yan yung tumawag ng foul before that play hehehe, kita-kita ng lahat hahaha, then they led 6-5, hangang dun nalang sila. Winning formula, Dondi instructed Tish to employ a semi-cup sa handler, Tish was guarding a spot where it is actually blocking the cutting lanes from the midline, forcing bad throws which eventually ended a turnover, Sarah was also helping this way making them to be forced at 1 side of the Field (Thanks to the knowledge imparted by Nana, when we were tought the Cup Defense -- Nagbunga din -- meaning listening is part of learning talaga -- di nyo yan ma-aapreciate while playing -- the best view is from the sideline hehehe). Napako na sila sa 6, we scored back to back point, to win, to tie at 6-6, when official said LAST POINT, this was the nail bitting series of event ensued. Our disc at the 3/4 from our end zone, with the wind. Shane was the best cutter, as he had cut and catch several passes to make us across the field, nakasalo pa yan ng hinagin na disc na halos nakato na!!! Galing Mo Shane!!! Nakikita ko lahat yan.... Then several tries for the wind. 1st Lawrence, incomplete!!!!!!!! Foul daw kay Greg hehehehe (Kami ni Mike sa sideline, UUUUyyyyy tumawag ng Foul si Greg). Another try ang walang kamatayan na semi-long huck ulit!!! Greg after the back to handler, Roy naman made a wonderful cut, (Ayyyyy si Roy di nasalo --- Ako yung while pinching Mike's Shoulder) FOUL! FOUL! FOUL! FOUL CALLED!!!! Ay salamat. Dondi eto na yun sinasabi mo na nakaka nerbiyos, we were trying kaya sobrang kaba na lahat, nanonood nalang wala na nag checheer, awaiting the end result.

And finally OUR CFA PASSER MADE A PASS OF HIS LIFE, WITH A WINNING SCORED AT HIS RECENT CFA EXAM, WE ALL JUMPED AND CELEBRATED AT THE FIELD SHOUTING OUR HEARTS OUT!!!!! PUMASA SI GREG!!! PUMASA SI GREG!!!! SA CFA EXAM NYA!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS GREG!!!!!!!!!! ANG Galing mo talaga pumasa!!!!!, Di nakikita ni Greg ang mga cutters so, from previous plays Lawrence was cutting alone Greg's path of vision, after makita ni Greg si Lawrence cutting in, Lawrence went long, midline going toward left, and after FORCING GREG TO THROW FOREHAND (kasi puro daw Backhand), TIRAHAN NGA NG KILLER FOREHAND, OUTSIDE IN, while Lawrence was curling left to right!!! Ayun!!! Tapos ang Boxing.... Agent 0 saved the day from the Molokai, bwahahahahaha!!!!

Two months after the Summer League, the Ultimate Warriors braved the fields of Alabang for the start of Summer League Part 2. (Sobrang init, parang hindi Monsoon!) Fresh from their pre-Monsoon meeting and excited to compete once again, everyone laced up their cleats (except Jacq, Ms. Sleepyhead) well ahead of the first scheduled game. The team jogged together, stretched together, practiced throws together and ultimately baked under the merciless heat of the sun together. Oh Monsoon, where art thou?

It’s a bit disappointing that the Warriors lost to Shawarma Club (Xavier players) especially since the team has beaten this club each time they faced each other in the past. The Warriors were also holding the lead for most of the game. It was a cycle of getting a two point lead and relinquishing the lead just as fast. There was a bit of confusion also with the rotation (My bad guys) as sometimes there was just one handler on the field. The Warriors gave themselves an opportunity to win the game but a wild chain of events from the disc going through the hands of three players (two Warriors, one Shawarma) and ending in a layout goal for the Shawarma girl robbed us of the victory. But all in all, it was a good game for the Warriors considering the heat and lack of players and the heat and the adjusting with the new rotation scheme and of course, the heat.

After a two-hour break, the Warriors faced their second opponent. Kayumanggi was a relatively beginner team and the Warriors took advantage. The team unleashed its secret weapon, Doctor extraordinaire, Jerome Castro. Dormant in the first game, the Doc exploded to score four or five goals in the contest, more than compensating for the absence of lead Hound Czarmel. Yeba! The newest member of the Houndz, Felix, also showcased his speed showing no signs that this was his first League game and only 3rd time overall to play Ultimate. But the unquestionable highlight of all highlights of course, is Roy ’s rolling attack. Now famously known in the Warriors circle as “gulungan sa damuhan”, Tisha and Roy scored in the endzone but no goal was counted. (Peace Tisha and Roy!) The event cannot be put into words and you just have to personally be there to understand. Sorry na lang sa mga absent. =)

Game 3

By the start of the 3^rd game, the Warriors were already beaten down by the sun. The Warriors faced a team with a familiar face (Hi JM!). Both teams were actually laboring, showing signs of fatigue throughout the game. But the Warriors had enough in its tank to pull through and secure their second victory of the day.

After the games, most of the team went on to ATC to eat and rehydrate after three games in one day under extreme heat and competition. It was super tiring but super fun. And the Warriors can’t wait to do it all over again this Sunday.

June 26, 2008 was the Ultimate Warriors' Post-Summer (it's rainy season na kasi eh) Outing, which was held at Punta Fuego and Sarah's house in Calamba.

Despite the weather forecasts that were posted on the net and flashed in the news, the outing was still pushed through.... RAIN or SHINE, TULOY PARIN!!

The golden ticket was a bit late to meet up with the crazy gang but in the end, the Warriors safely arrived at Punta Fuego, ready to swim & play Ultimate on the sand.

It was sad to see the beach. The shoreline got narrow, the waves were really strong and the sand eroded big time. Gosh darn that global warming.

But despite of global warming's effect on the beach, the place felt so right for the Warriors: A Mediterranean style cabana that was able to accomodate 23 people, the beach that was all for the Warriors (because there were super few people who were there), hammocks all over the place, and cool sounds were played while chillaxing big time. We spent the entire daytime playing ultimate, drinking chilled booze, swimming at the sea and pool, sleeping, working (well that's just one person) and just chillaxing big time. Lunch was quite pricey but in fairness, it was the perfect place to do photo ops (the place has a nice ambiance).

It rained in the afternoon but it did not make the Warriors stop from having fun. So most of the gang went to the infinity pool, while some slept and one person kept on working. It got a little bit chilly during the scattered rainshowers but after an hour, the sun came out. As the minutes approached to the closing of the resort, the Warriors had to decide where to eat before the "big night" (gosh hhannuzzbhhhuzzz PBB?).

Dinnertime was at a Mexican resto located at Paseo de Sta. Rosa.

Then the fateful night. Bangenge night at Sarah's place. The house was big to accomodate the entire mob. Jomen and the Golden Ticket did not make it to Calamba but the 21 beach freaks plus Shane (he followed from work) were started boozing up. Quoted from Tish the Dish, "our new members have been officially inducted into the Warriors School of Partying." Oh yeah baby... Totally true!! Oh yeah, what were the drinks??? Too many to mention...

Summer League Party

Yup, it was indeed a different story. After the tiring game, the disc-crazed people celebrated victory, defeat and friendship at Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street. The party's theme was "under the sea", but apparently people went there as they were and partied like there was no tomorrow. Each team brought their own concoction and shared it to everyone and anyone.

As always, the Warriors knew how to rock any and every party. The people had a great time dancing, drinking and sharing drinks to other people.

The Ultimate Warriors were vying for the Pool B championship. As the number 4 seed, they just wanted to win their quarterfinals match up and enjoy the rest of their games. But they were closer to the championship than they originally thought…

Molokai – 6
This was a rematch of the Day 2 game when both teams were still in Pool C. The Warriors won that game by the slimmest of margins (sa mga nag nosebleed, one point ibig sabihin nito). The first game was intense. And the rematch would not be different. The Warriors jumped to an early lead as they scored the first three points of the match. But the Molokai team wanted revenge for their first round loss and would play hard as they were able to even the score at 6-6. And this is when the Warriors turned it up a notch. They made sure to score the next point and take a one point lead into halftime. During the second half, there would be more Warriors good play as they would not let Molokai score again. However, there would be a lot of contested and controversial calls and a lot of heated and intense arguments. The Warriors team was again told to “Read the Rulebooks” (apparently this also happened during the round 1 encounter). This is coming from a guy who is contesting a travel call when he was on the other end of the field and obviously was not in position to make or contest a call. Another controversial call was when Nana told Lawrence (who has possession of the disc) to call a timeout. Lawrence instead made a pass to the endzone for a goal which was contested by Molokai as they argued that play should stop since a timeout was called. For the record, VI.A.4 of the Official Rules of Ultimate 11th edition sates to wit “After the pull, only a thrower with possession of the disc that has survived ground contact can call a time out.” (Underscoring Ours) Thus, there was no timeout since Lawrence (the thrower with possession of the disc) did not call one. Yes, the Warriors know the rules. (at least si Nana alam. Kanina ko lang niresearch to. Hehe.) But what made things worse was that the Molokai team would not talk and argue reasonably. They would accept the calls but there would be a lot of mumbling and gesturing that suggest that the Warriors were resorting to foul play. It would have been easier if both teams calmed down and discussed the contested calls and agreed on a resolution. But it was too late for that. Both teams were intense and wanted to win. Enteng even had a face-to-face altercation with a Molokai player (Mr Suave: Hoy! Hoy! Hoy! Hoy! Hoy! Hoy! Just ask Bossing for the details). At the end of the game, the Warriors emerged victorious 12-6. But this was not received well by the other team and some Molokai players would be hesitant to shake the hands of the Warriors. It was a bit frustrating for some of the Warriors but a win is a win and the team is moving on to the semis. And even if they didn’t intend to, they just started a bitter rivalry with the Molokai squad.

After the hard-fought win over their “rival”, the Warriors had a one hour break before facing Monster. Just a week has passed since Monster handed the Warriors its third straight defeat, 13-8. There was no pressure to win this game but the Warriors team knew that they can compete with Monster and there is still a chance for victory. And the relaxed Warriors team showed just how good they can be. The two teams exchanged goals as they fought a close game. With the Warriors up 4-3, Monster decided to switch to a Cup defense. The Warriors arduously brought down the disc. Inch by inch, one short pass at a time. The Monster Cup tested the patience of the Warriors offense to the limit. The Warriors were near the endzone already when the Monster Cup broke an intended pass to the endzone (My bad! Sorry!). The exhausted Warriors could not get back on D as Monster scored an easy point to tie the game. Monster and the Ultimate Warriors would then exchange goals again as neither team was able to pull away. Monster would continue to put on a Cup defense and the Warriors would again labor its way to the endzone. They swung it back and forth but they can’t seem to swing it fast enough and break free on the other side as they let the Monster Cup hound them. After what seemed like forever, the Warriors found enough holes and made enough dangerous passes to score a well-deserved goal. There was also a sensational yet scary play when Enteng made a high pass to the endzone. Clyde made a good catch over two Monster players but was bumped while in mid-flight. With the disc still in his grasp he was pulled back down by gravity as his head bounced on the ground. The Warriors bench cleared as they raced down the field and found Clyde on the ground with his eyes closed, left hand clutching the disc and with his lower body inside the endzone. (Yay! Goal!) He would stay down for a few more seconds before he was pulled up by his teammates and greeted with cheers and some jeers (overheard: “Donds, tama na arte. Bumangon ka na dyan.”). With five minutes left, the Warriors were up 9-8 and they would score another goal to extend its lead to two points. They played hard defense and were able to force a turnover before the final minute was called on the field. The Warriors were up by two with one minute remaining. This was it. They were close. They could taste victory. They were headed to the finals. And then it happened. With a blink of an eye, the Warriors committed a costly turnover near the Monster endzone. Monster immediately took advantage and scored a quick point. The Warriors came crashing back to earth. They now have to score a goal to secure the win. Monster again opted for a Cup defense. And again, the Warriors slowly, patiently and painstakingly brought the disc down the length of the field. But again, the Warriors would commit a costly turnover. Monster raced down to their endzone easily, as the tired Warriors could do nothing but watch desperately as Monster tied the game. Their hearts and their minds wanted to push on and play hard defense, but their weary legs could do no more. It has now come down to one point. Whoever scores the next goal will advance to the finals. The next few minutes was a blur (either di ko na maalala or kinalimutan ko na lang talaga). The Ultimate Warriors would turn the disc over again and allow Monster to score the game winning goal. Final score 11-10. The Warriors played arguably their best game of the league but still came up short.

The sting of the loss to Monster was carried forward to the next game with K3. Casualties of the previous game can be seen everywhere. Enteng was not able to play as he suffered from cramps during the last moments of the Monster game. And Czarmel would also be lost early in the game. But this game was lost even before it started. Everyone did not have the energy and the will to play on. Clearly devastated from the heartbreaking loss, the Warriors were lucky to have scored three goals during the match. Everyone was sluggish and could not wait for the game to be over. It was a forgettable game except for the “all vs. all” final point (“Everyone on the line!”). Every member of K3 and the Warriors took on the field. And as K3 pulled the disc everyone went running towards the middle of the field while screaming their battle cries. The Warriors played their very, very short game as everyone had a good time. The Warriors lost the final point and lost their final game of the Summer League. But they emerged victorious, with new experiences, new friends and even new rivals. And they vowed to be back for Monsoon, stronger than ever.

Armed with a new cheer, the Ultimate Warriors braved the fields of Alabang pumped up and ready to go. And with last week’s losses all but forgotten, the Warriors were back to their happy-go-lucky, “quota”-cheering ways. All smiles. No pressure. What a perfectly nice day to play some disc.

As you can see above, the Warriors were missing a lot of its key players. Jaguar Paw was up in the mountains, Enteng Kabisote was nowhere in sight and Mike was in faraway Boston . Lei was in CDO, Jomen was singing “Happy Birthday Lola” and the Doctor was out. Mina was explaining how she got her "chinese get-up marks" to her family and Garry was pounding on his tita's roof, mourning the loss of their chickens. With just a little over two lines, the Warriors were a bit shorthanded as they try to sneak in another pool B win…

Before the start of the game, Michell told the Warriors that this is a must-win game for the team. If the Warriors beat Monster, they had a chance for a higher seed and would then be assured of a lower seed opponent in next week’s finals. The Warriors were faced again with a familiar foe: the pressure to win. But they brushed it off and decided not to give in to the pressure. They wanted to play their game and have fun on the field and a winning result would just be a bonus. (Fact: There would be no bonus today. Haha.) There was no wind and it would have been the perfect condition for Jaguar Paw’s long hucks. But the Warriors would have to make do with their players who are present on the field. The Warriors went to their short running game and would be able to bring the disc down just to fall short of a goal. And even though the movement and the flow of the offense were quite good, the Warriors could not finish consistently early on. Monster would rely on their hucks and the Warriors slow feet (take a bow Dondi and Greg) as they piled on the points to build a five point lead at the half. Monster also showed the Warriors different looks on defense as they switched between Man and Cup throughout the game. The Warriors also struggled a bit with the Cup but they were eventually able to break the defense and score some goals. The team made a run after the short halftime break to cut down Monster’s lead. They broke their quota of five points and everyone was pumped up after each goal as the team remained competitive with Monster for the remainder of the game. (Fact: Spectators taught the Warriors won the game because of the way they were cheering!) With a need for handlers, a number of players stepped up with Sarah helping out in breaking the Cup and assists on goals by Roy and Lawrence. And of course, Greg’s long bullet pass to Cel to the endzone (Greg to Dondi: forehand yun ha!). And everyone else shared in the handling duties as the Warriors mostly played a short to mid game with the occasional long play here and there. The Warriors were able to give Monster a little scare but the early deficit was just too hard to overcome. The Warriors went down for their third consecutive loss, 13-8. But most of the team (if not all) was already extremely happy with the results. (“8 points! Lagpas sa quota!”)

Circus Weng Weng – 12

After a one hour break, the Warriors would lace ‘em up again and take on a team it met twice in the previous Malakas at Maganda league. Both times, the Warriors and Circus teams pushed each other to the limit. Both times, the Warriors succumbed to defeat. But Circus was on the second game of a back to back set and the Warriors were looking to take advantage of this to finally get over the hump. With the aid of some orange juice (uy, orange juice lang daw!), the Warriors were ready to take on this challenge. They would play the same short game formula they used in the Monster game and would surprise Circus with their quickness and accuracy as they would score from endzone to endzone without dropping the disc. Circus also showed them a Cup defense which the Warriors easily broke and were converted into quick points. But the Circus team had more experience. They used their highly organized offense and took advantage of some Warriors mistakes to build a four point lead. Despite the deficit, the Warriors remained in high spirits. And instead of feeling down and walking to the other end of the field after a Circus point, some Warriors decided to put on a show. The people on the sidelines were treated to a tumbling, cartwheeling and splitting exhibition. (Fact: Si Lawrence napressure, nagtumbling din!) After the “show”, the Warriors proved that they had a little more fight in them. With the “orange juice” taking effect, they made one final push. A good defensive stop in the Circus’ endzone followed by an efficient short game was converted into a goal. The “orange juice” effect was mostly reflected in Czarmel’s game as he turned into a monster on defense. He was all over the field, running and sky-ing for some great defensive plays that prevented Circus from extending their lead. However, the Warriors were slowly running out of time. Down by just two points, the five minute time mark was called on the field. Showing a bit of desperation and exhaustion from their latest run, the Warriors blew a number of scoring chances. In the end, Circus would score the final point to take the 3-point win and deal the Warriors their fourth loss in as many games.

Overall record after 10 games: 8-4

Although the Warriors lost both games, they were able to show some improvement and a lot of potential for the future. We were competitive in both games. We’re just a bit inconsistent, a bit inexperienced, and a bit impatient at times. But in both games, we were right there. If not for some careless mistakes, we would have been in position to at least challenge for a win. Nevertheless, everyone still had fun in the field. And that’s the most important thing. (I’m all for fun, but can we please win at least one more game? Please? Haha. Pressure!!!)

In the end, we can attribute all our four losses to one thing: Bobby’s presence. (Ross, abswelto ka na) Thank you Bobby, for sharing your “gift” with us. Peace. =)

Finals next Saturday! That just means one thing: Inuman na!

Day 5. Summer League.

Alabang Country Club

The Ultimate Warriors arrived in ACC early Saturday morning ready to take on and crush two more teams on its way to glory. They boasted of an unblemished record and were determined to add two more Ws to their perfect 8-0 card. They were undefeated. They were streaking. And nobody dared to stand in their way. They were confident. They were invincible. Until...

...Bobby and Ross showed up to watch the games.

The Ultimate Warriors fate was now sealed. With the arrival of the two “lucky charms”, their chances of keeping their perfect record were reduced from slim to none.

Game 9: “1 vs 100”

The early game proved to be a challenging task as the Ultimate Warriors failed to arrive early enough to have ample time for proper warm ups, throws and drills. The good news was that BC also found this task daunting as they were only able to suit up 4 players at the start of the game. But the Warriors showed the lack of preparation as they struggled to score the first point even though they had three more players on the field. BC just needed one good handler and proper spacing and cutting as they tied the game at 1 point apiece. (They just had 4 players! Naman! Argh.) The howling winds did not help the Warriors as each soft pass was blown out of control, high up in the air, often resulting in a turnover. They showed flashes of brilliance in their short game as they were able to run the length of the field from the pull to the endzone without dropping the disc. At times, they were able to take advantage of the undermanned BC team. But not even double or triple teams were able to stop their opponent. And soon, one by one, the rest of the BC team arrived reducing the Warriors advantage of three players to two and then to one. But the Warriors remained competitive, making sure the players on the field were fresh to outrun the tired BC team. They took a 7-5 halftime lead. They started the second half on offense, hopeful and confident. With little time left, they needed just one more point to grab a 3 point lead and have a little bit of breathing room. One more point to drain the remaining hope of the exhausted BC squad. One more point and they were closer to achieving their 9th straight victory. But the Ultimate Warriors would not score a point the rest of the way. The wind was too strong and there were too many bad decisions, dropped discs, forced passes and silly mistakes which resulted in too many costly turnovers. BC scored the next three points en route to a universal point victory. They were the better team today, even though it was, as JR said “1 vs 100”. The Warriors succumbed to their first defeat of the Summer League. For some (I think MC2 girls?), this was their first defeat ever. For the others, they were reminded of the sting of losing from previous leagues which seemed ages ago. But this loss was different. Everyone was a little bit more sad and disappointed. Maybe even depressed. Maybe because after winning all those games the Warriors did not know how to deal with a loss. Or that there was just too much pressure on winning. For the first time, the Warriors failed to have fun on the field. And because of that, the Warriors lost more than just a game, they lost their identity. (Hayop! Haha.) But at least the Warriors can always look back and say “Malas talaga si Bobby at Ross... may mga balat sa puwet!!"

Game 10: “Balik sa Quota”
Ultimate Warriors – 5
K3 – 12

After losing the first game, the Warriors realized that there was too much focus on winning every game. They were never that kind of team. Don't get me wrong, the Warriors want to win. They are hungry to win. But having fun is second to none. And with that mantra in mind, the Warriors took on the field for their second game in high spirits. The memory of the BC loss was brushed off and seemed to be a distant memory. It was the first time the Warriors played K3 in a game. They were unfamiliar faces, except for some who were in different teams the Warriors faced previously in past leagues. Thus, the Warriors did not know the game of K3. They did not know who to match up with. They did not know what to expect. They were able to be competitive with K3 at the start of the game, making good defensive plays and forcing K3 turnovers. K3 showed that they were the more experienced team and by halftime, they were comfortably ahead of the Warriors and running away with the game. But aside from the score, there were no other signs of an impending Warriors defeat. The Warriors on the sideline were on their feet, cheering and screaming as if it was a closely-fought championship game. The Warriors were back. Back to having fun. Back to enjoying the game. Back to the “Quota” cheer (isa na lang, quota na!). But this does not mean that the Warriors stopped fighting on the field. This was evident in the last (and longest!) point of the game. Both teams have been battling for the final point for more than five minutes but neither wanted to give way even though it will not affect the result of the game. Even with another loss assured, the Warriors fought mightily for the final point. Despite the heavy breathing and the extremely tired bodies, the Warriors were able to find the last of their energy for one final D and one final march to reach the endzone. After what seemed like forever, the Warriors achieved their goal and scored the final point of the match. Final score: 12-5. “Quota tayo”.

Pool B Record: 2-2
Overall record after 10 games: 8-2

After the hard fought matches, the Warriors watched the SP01 vs Sexual Chocolate match. You wouldn't see in their faces that they just lost two games earlier in the day.

But the most fun moment on that they was the warriors played a 10-on-10, barefooted, no-rules pick-up game after. And some semi-crazy (with a tinge of "point-of-clarity") lay-out drills too. Due to what happened to Mina because of Doc's Chinese Get-Up, it was inevitable for most Warriors to exclaim the triggerhappy doctor "pa-burger ka naman jan." Doc handed Php1500 for that "pa-cheeseburger treat" and the Warriors packed their bags and left to get their burger. But instead, the troop went to Congo Grille, where the “fun” would continue.

Here are some of the thoughts and good whatevs from the peeps (to be added soon, must retrieve some stuff from the email thread):

Dondi: "I think it would be safe to say that the Warriors had as much fun today (if not more fun) as the other League days despite losing both matches. I think as a team, we are still continuing to grow. There's a lot of things we have to learn, a lot of aspects in our game that we have to improve. Inch by inch we'll get there. Sabi nga ni Alvin Patrimonio at ng Purefoods, 'Slowly but surely'. Rome wasn't build in a day. Ayus! We are still behind in skills, but we are learning. We may not be faster, stronger and generally better than the other teams, but we keep on fighting. We may continue to lose some games, but we should never, ever forget to have fun. I'm proud of you losers! =)"

Mike: "Tama ka Dondz. Kahit talo tayo noong Day 5, yun yung pinakamasayang Summer League day kasi… (quoting Gladiola) 'We celebrated Friendship!' Hahaha. Go Warriors!"

Ivy: "bsta ako, win or lose!its the team i choose!!!ahehehehe..parang cheer un ng ateneo a..hahah..bsta enjoy, kht talo oks lang!!!"

Glad (chatbox mode): "basta masaya nga tayo! lalo na yung 10-on-10 at yung ating congo grille fest. hahahaha! go warriors!! give me a woot-woot!! hhahaha!!"

Glad (serious mode... nosebleed thoughts): Of course we want to win and we've been having the burning desire to excel in this game but we have to keep in mind that winning is just the tip of the iceberg. As we go underwater or deeper, it's the established friendship and memories that have been significant when we started playing ultimate. *then kikay mode* SO OMIGOSH LET'S CELEBRATE FRIENDSHIP!!

Bobby (sa car on the way home to Makati): We have come a long way and I think we should be proud of what we've gone through. We started to have fun in ultimate and that must be continued. The fun must not stop.

Day 4. Summer League. Round 2. Pool B.

Alabang Country Club

Bonnie and Clyde arrived in Alabang Country Club at around 1:30 PM and thought they were early for their 2:20 PM game. But to their surprise, most of the Ultimate Warriors were already there (including Reymund, with a hangover!), bags on the grass, red jerseys on their backs and ready to boot up their cleats. While the Warriors were warming up with their throws, at least three people asked Clyde “Wala ba tayong drills? Kahit Go To lang?” Wow. He was in shock. This is coming from a team who usually arrives with less than 10minutes before the game with no more time to warm up. From a team who frowns upon drills during practices and pick-ups (“Game na tayo! Sayang ilaw!”). But this Sunday was different from Sundays past. This was no ordinary day. On this day, the Warriors were early. On this day, the Warriors warmed up their throws, jogged and stretched as a group. On this day, the Warriors had time for drills before the game. On this day, the Warriors were in Pool B.

Pool B Results:
Game 7
Ultimate Warriors – 9
Huck U – 8
The Warriors caught a big break since Huck U only had 9 players with 2 girls. The decision between the teams was that the offense (during the pull) will call the ratio of players on the field. If Huck U was on offense, the ratio will be 5 boys and 2 girls. If the Warriors were on offense, the ratio will be 4 boys and 3 girls with Huck U fielding only six players (4 boys and 2 girls). Another advantage was that Huck U just came from a grueling match with Circus that extended more than 10 minutes beyond regulation time and ended with a loss via a universal point. They had only 10 minutes of rest and their exhaustion showed during the first few minutes of the game as the Warriors jumped to an early 2-point, Pool B lead. However, these “ninja kids” found their second wind and caught up with the Warriors who were struggling to bring down the disc. The Warriors couldn't capitalize even with an extra girl on the field. And even when the Huck U players were outnumbered, they were able to force turnovers and leave the helpless defense of the Warriors to score quick points. The Warriors lost their lead and were down 2 points with Huck U threatening to pull away. Enter the Houndz. With Czarmel, Ian and Lawrence on the field at the same time, the Warriors were able to match up with the speed of the “ninja kids” (Houndz vs Ninja Kidz! Puede!). The Pool B Houndz used their quickness to make one defensive play after another. And each defensive play was converted to quick goals as the Warriors filled the score sheet with three straight points and took the lead for good. After the three quick points, it was back and forth between the two teams as both made turnovers and had a hard time finishing offensive plays, clearly showing the effects of exhaustion as they continued to battle under the heat of the blazing sun. There was a heated Pool B moment when Clyde made an assist to Gladys (which would've been her first point during a league game) but a travel was called by Huck U. He contested the call and a heated argument ensued ending with a big “Whatever!” from the Huck U handler. Wow, real mature. Clyde was so pissed but he decided to take the high road and just brushed it off. He tapped the disc in, waited for the Huck U handler to set up his defense (para wala na masabi), made a short pass to Ian who made another quick pass to Gladys for her first goal. Boom. Score. (Whatever! Haha). And finally, with the Warriors up 9-7, everyone was relieved to hear the sweetest two words ever from Michelle: “Last point”. Huck U scored the final game of the match and the Ultimate Warriors were able to escape with a one point Pool B victory.

Game 8 Ultimate Warriors – 13 Xavier B – 4 The Warriors were still very much exhausted from their Pool B “thriller” of a game vs Huck U. They were given only a few minutes of rest before the next game vs Xavier B. It was a good thing that the Warriors beat this team already during the first round and they were a bit confident that they will be able to repeat over Xavier B. From the start, the Warriors showed that they were the dominant team. It was never even close (Yabang na naman! Haha). The Warriors Pool B defense was merciless (big Ds by Clyde , Enteng, Jane and Mike among others). And we were able to score a bunch of points off of the Xavier B turnovers. There was a scary moment when Kickass Caracas was elbowed in the head by a Xavier player and spent a few moments lying on the grass. But he was able to shake it off (“Buti na lang malayo sa utak!”) and he went back into the field again after a few minutes on the sideline. Although Xavier were able to steal a couple of long hucks to the endzone vs the Warriors formidable defense ( Lawrence kamot ulo and Dondi asar talo kay Greg), it was a relatively easy Pool B game for the Warriors as they cruised to another Pool B win. It was a good time for everyone to gain playing experience as everyone received ample playing time and given opportunities to showcase their skills. Mike took some of the load of the handling responsibilities for some time and scored his first goal in the process. Everyone wanted in on the fun with Doc and Garry refusing to give way as they each scored half a point on a closely contested goal (contested by each other. “Akin yan!”). Even the girls were active in the offense as Tisha and Leah both made Pool B assists. Enteng and Lawrence were even practicing their fakes and their semi-lunging/ semi-leaping overhand-backhand Pool B throw (di ko alam tawag dun, basta yung mga pilantik pa sa dulo ng release. haha.). Nana also had a “Derek moment” as he went into the game barefoot, and even scored a goal. The Warriors were very much in control of the game and were having so much fun that Mundz decided to “fake a stack”. Clyde made the first mistake – he believed Reymund. He picked up the disc near the sideline and passed it to the middle to Mundz for the “stack” play. Mundz called out “First Cutter!” and Tisha made the second mistake - she actually made a cut to the open side. Jaguar Paw promptly ignored her cut (and the stack which HE called in the first place) and made his usual play: a forehand huck to the White Dragon in the endzone. (Mundz: “Temptation si Greg eh!” Sabagay, first time na mabilis tumakbo si Greg so pagbigyan na natin para hindi masayang yung pagod nya. Hehe.) At least Greg made the catch for a quick goal and little bit of Pool B bragging after.

Summer League 2008: Day 2
Alabang Country Club

Players:

Game 1: Ultimate Warriors vs. Molokai

Molokai, an experienced team, proved to be our toughest competitor to date. The game was pretty close all throughout, and rather heated at some points.

- The first few stats of the day were all courtesy of our super MC2 players: First point was made by Hound No. 1 Czar, courtesy of MVP contender Lawrence (need proof? By the end of it, he had like 5 points, 3 assists, and 1 block!).
- Molokai then scored their first point. Possession kept changing due to the strong winds; it was during this rally that Ian/Enteng Kabisote/Bosing/ Hound No. 2 made a beautiful block at the endzone on a Molokai huck. The Warriors went on to score point no. 2 on an assist by Roy (see, all MC2 so far!) and a goal by Ivy! Woohoo!
- On the succeeding rally, Ian had another block...Dino then made a pass to Ubai at the endzone, making it 3-1.
- Molokai made it 3-2, but we soon scored on an assist by Jaguar Paw/MVP contender Reymund (1 point, 6 or 7 assists, 3 blocks) and goal by Doc ("You're beautiful... "), 4-2.
- Molokai then cut the lead down to one once again, before Nana scored a point on an assist by Lawrence, 5-3.
- After 10 million years (it was a really long point, and Gladys was again on the field. Haha), Garry made it 6-3 on an assist from Reymund.
- Molokai then rallied to make it 6-6! Eep! But we were soon ahead by one again after Lawrence added a point to his stats on an upwind pass from Reymund.
- After a block by Lawrence, Tisha ("Pat-pat" according to Doc's notes. Sa'n ba nag-umpisa 'to?!) scored on an assist from Lawrence (nanaman! Exag), making it 8-6. Grabe na ito--from a point, to a block, to an assist! Ang pogi!
- Czar made a monster block at the Molokai endzone, and soon we were leading by three as Reymund assisted--guess who?--Lawrence!
- The last (or second to the last) point was a "long-ass point," according to my notes...Reymund made a block at the endzone, but we weren't able to convert. Molokai went on to score two more points.

Molokai - 8

HALF-TIME SHOW
Gladys regaled us with a mala-Lola Basyang story (R-rated nga lang) about Patpong; Doc acted it out. Hahaha. "Ella, ella, ella..."

Game 2: Ultimate Warriors vs. Madness

It's Madness, I tell ya! These kids still had young, untainted lungs, so may kabilisan sila, ang walang exhaustion factor. Conditioning tayo! Hehe.

- Reymund scored the first point on an assist from Czar.
- Jane made a solid block at the Madness endzone! Go girls!!!
- The superstars then got to work as Lawrence scored on an assist from Reymund. (Ry, inggit ka na ba? Hehe.) Warriors up, 2-0.
- Ivy worked her defense! The chain of events led to Nana scoring a Callahan (tama ba ang usage ko? Hehe)! Yeba!!!
- Mundz proved that he had defensive power as well by blocking the disc with a kick! Sadly, we weren't able to convert, and we soon turned over the disc. Sayang! Nice D, though!
- The kids were soon able to catch up, 3-3. Beads of sweat started to form...partly from the heat, and a teensy bit coz of worry.
- ...But we needn't have worried as Lawrence scored on an assist from Czar, making it 4-3.
- On our next possession, Enteng Kabisote threw a bender, caught by Lawrence! (Lawrence, nagsasawa na ako kaka-type ng pangalan mo ha. Hehe.)
- Doc made a block, and the Warriors soon scored on a huck by Reymund to Roy. (Reymund, isa ka pa. Masyadong nagpapaka-MVP! Hehe.)
- I think this was the point I missed: Garry scored another one for the Warriors.
- Si Reymund, inagawan kami ng disc ni Ubai. Hehe. Pero oks lang, he proceeded to toss it to the endzone where Tisha was waiting. Score: 8-4.
- Garry scored, making it 9-4, on an assist from Mike.
- Madness scored before their star player went down--buti na lang cramps lang. Masyado kasing masipag!
- The Warriors had a series of blocks by Ubai, Dino, and Reymund. Good D, guys! Doc caught the disc at the endzone, but he was supposedly on the line, so he passed it to Dino to peg the final score.

Madness - 5

As of day 2, Warriors' standing is 4-0! Woohoo! Go Warriors!

We had fans din yelling "Go honeeeeey!!! " in honor of Dondi and Sarah Cruz. (Woohoo! Mabuhay ang bagong kasal!!!)

Game 1: Ultimate Warriors vs. Kayumanggi
- Game time was at 9:00 am and half the team got there at...7:30 am! Yeeees! Coach Nana, are you proud of us? Minsan lang manyari 'yon! Haha.

- Kayumanggi is a new team--parang UW nung Monsoon. We were up by around 7 when they scored their first point (am I inventing?), and they super celebrated. Sounds family! Hehe.

- Mina had back-to-back points! Yeba! First assist was from Mundz and second assists was care of Gary Gnu Caracas. See pic below on their affirmation to Minabolz.

- We fielded an all-MC2 lineup, which made a quick point! Woohoo! The MC2 hounds were a real asset, giving much-needed BURSTS OF SPEED! and jumping ability to the Warriors.

- Mike had a good assist with someone, which led to have another score... who's that someone?? Nakalimutan na po eh... Hehhehe!

- AMP was at the top of his game! He was tearin' up the field both on offense--having some great passes (may point pa ata)--and defense--with super tight D and even a block, if I remember right. Nagpapa-impress ata sa chicks niya eh. Daddy! Daddy!

- Tisha scored 2-points. She started to wonder baket wala daw nagbuhat sa kanya... Hehehe!

- Gladys, in her Madame Bola finery, was an able handler. She even had her trademark "Dito! Dito! Aay! Huwag! Huwag! Huwag!" play. Hehe.

Game 2: Ultimate Warriors vs. TODA 2
- In this game, we had to contend with all the teams' worst enemy that day: the wind! Hindi umuubra ang UW play na fast break and huck pag against the wind.:s (In fairness, kahit Sexual Chocolate nahirapang magbaba ng disc against the wind.)

- We had to play against JM, who decided she preferred to play with TODA. Huhuhuhu. Why, JM, why? How could you leave us? Joke lang.:) Nakakainis, takbo ka nang takbo! Hija, wag mo naman akong pagurin.

- Greg disproved his claim that he's the "pinakatamad sa team"--he had two consecutive dives: an awesome backroll and a stuntman's roll, to catch the disc! Greg, ikaw ba 'yan? Maigi ata sa 'yo 'yung walang tulog pag naglaro.

- The girls were killin' it--Cel had awesome D, Lei had a few good cuts to receive the disc, Jane had a terrific block, and Ena got an injured finger for her efforts. Ena, OK ka na? Awwww.

- Ian scored a point, and the crowd burst into song. Sing it with me now, "Enteng Kabisote..."

- Papa Derek was on our side! Hahaha. There was a contested point because no one knew if our player was out or in when he caught it--we were all too far to see. Derek walked by and said, "It was in. But it's up to him to decide," he said, referring to the TODA player. Said TODA player then ruled our dude was stepping on the line. So no count.

- The longest point for this game was our 8th point--the wind was so strong that the disc's path was utterly unpredictable. The Warriors tried to complete a play so many times, but each time, the wind foiled the team's attempt! It sucks that I can't remember who finally scored. Haha. Sino nga ba? Please come forward! In the middle of it, Gladys exclaimed, "Ang haba ng point na 'to ha!!!" Glads, sinulit ka lang namin, baka di ka na magpakita ulit eh.:)

- Tisha scored the 9th point. She dived!! Give her a woot-woot!!

- Last point was courtesy of Doc! Woohoo!

Through the years...

It started at the 2005 SGV Sportsfest. Ultimate Frisbee was new to the vocabularies of the many but at the same time, everybody was excited. It also started with endless emails that ate up people's LN memories and countless visitations at the Disc Devils games. After the relentless desire of each MCs to win through serious trainings, the skills of each were honed. The throws were breathtaking and the stamina was uncompromising.

Despite the victories and defeat, at the end of the day, it's all about affirming one another and at the same time bitchin' out, plus lotsa lotsa booze. Wapak! Hence, this was a beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Millions of Saturdays went by and new faces arrived at the Urdaneta greens. The Saturday Ultimate Games became a ritual to the peeps. Some may not go but they make it a point not to forget and go back. The Saturday Urdaneta Games served as an avenue for fun and detoxification from corporate toxicities. Of course if we play hard, we party harder!

I guess we wanted more than just having fun. We realized that our skills further developed. We took Ultimate into the next level. We placed formalities by coming up with our own league and later on joining the PUA games. Even if the winning streak has not been that prevalent, we keep on trying and working hard to be the best. Moving forward, maybe UW will be the benchmark of those newly established teams. Grabe, career na'toh!

Of course, mawawala ba naman ang parties at inuman?? Siyempre hinde!! Palalagpasin ba yan ng mga peeps?? Ah talagang hinde!! Bwahahaha!!

Well, it's been 3 years since we began this journey. It's amazing how loyal and persistent we are (or some of us) in the game of Ultimate. Some us us have left the country, got married and went on with our respective lives. But we definitely know how we began.... and how to have fun.... in times of booze calls.

Cheers to UW!! More years to come for all of us...

- 2nd-6th week 2nd set of pool games
- 7th week - Finals May 31, 2007

No adding of players after 1st round of pool games.

Regular Game Format
- Time Cap 65 mins
- Point Cap 13
- No Half Time
- But half is @ 7 points, where there will only be a mirror for 2 mins to change field and possession *mirror - change lang nung sa start ng game, so kung pull ka ng 1st half, receive ka ng 2nd half
- 2 Timeouts per games, which can be used anytime except 5 mins before gametime.
